∙ 14y agoSalt is put in pools in conjunction with what is known as a pool chlorination system usually the salt is sodium chloride which is the same as table salt. The concentration is very low and is about the same as the amount found in your tears. Salt in the water makes it more comfortable to swim in and wont do you any harm. And it will not irritate your skin. Saltwater pools make their own chlorine in conjunction with a chlorinator and still require other chemicals at times to keep the water corectly balances and sanitary for swimmers.
