1998 Volkswagon Beetle Bug Alarm goes off when trying to start?

Disconnect the battery, turn the key to the on position (the position where the engine light comes on). Reconnect the battery and alarm should stay off, then continue to start the car.
Been reading all the blogs on how disconnecting the battery and EPC should reset the alarm...doesn't work! But my method worked everytime..."Good Luck"

Your alarm needs to be reset. Look in the manual for instructions. The alarm was probably arms when you changed the battery an now the alarm computer is thinking that it is being triggered by the ignition.
