Probably because it's 15 years old and needs to have a bunch of money in the form of new plugs, plug wires, a total clean out of the fuel system done etc etc etc. These are pretty basic engines but they have a whole lot of computer junk built on them which will affect their starting and running characteristics.

When you ask a question like this it really helps your "answerers" if you could provide more information about what is actually going on. To do less allows us to say things as general as your question is or to just trash the question to begin with.
